Match preview: West Coast v Essendon - AFL

West Coast crushed the Bombers by 103 points in the last game of the NAB Challenge and the Eagles will be keen to do the same on Thursday night as they seek to keep their slim top-four hopes alive. The Bombers put in a spirited performance against Greater Western Sydney just prior to the bye but before that they suffered heavy losses to Hawthorn and Fremantle. The challenge for the Bombers is two-fold. They need to kick a winning score whilst curbing the Eagles' powerful forward line. The Bombers have averaged just eight goals this season while the Eagles have kicked 18 goals or more in five of seven home games this season. The Eagles will want to put in a good display against former coach John Worsfold.<br /> <br /> 2. West Coast is ranked third for marks inside 50 averaging 14.4 per game. Essendon has struggled in this area, ranked last with only 9.4 per game.<br /> <br /> 3. The Bombers continue to be a high-disposal side, ranked second in the AFL averaging 393.7 per game. They are also ranked second for uncontested possessions with 264.6 per game.<br /> <br /> 4. West Coast has dominated Essendon at Domain Stadium, winning 15 games to three, including nine of the last 10. The Bombers have lost their last 10 games interstate and haven't won since 2014 in Adelaide.<br /> <br /> 5. There is a big difference between the two teams in scoring. West Coast is ranked third for goals per game with 15.1 while Essendon is last with 8.5. The Bombers are the only team under 10 goals per game.<br /> <br /> 6. <br /><br />Their only problem; nine of those matches are against teams currently in the top eight. <br /><br />Their first task is a date with the Bulldogs, and despite boasting an impressive recent record against the men from Belmore, the Roosters will head into this one as heavy underdogs.<br /><br />The Tricolours have won just one of their past five matches – including a 32-20 defeat at the hands of the Dogs in Round 11 – while the Bulldogs are fresh from an emphatic 26-point win over the Broncos on Saturday night. <br /><br />Having traded wins for losses for the first two months of the season, the Bulldogs have snuck under the radar to sit on 20 competition points in equal-fifth position on the NRL Telstra Premiership ladder.<br /><br />A win on Thursday wouldn't just consolidate their position inside the top eight; it would confirm their status as a genuine premiership threat in 2016.  <br /><br />The Roosters have received a huge boost with star halfback Mitchell Pearce returning from injury for the first time since these sides last met. Veteran South Korea striker Lee Dong-Gook has been recalled to the national squad for next month's home friendlies against Venezuela and Uruguay as he hopes to win his long-awaited 100th cap.<br /> <br /> The Korea Football Association (KFA) announced a 22-man squad on Monday, bringing the 35-year-old Lee back into the fold after he shot to the top of the K-League scoring charts this season with 11 goals in 21 matches.<br /> <br /> The Jeonbuk Motors forward, dubbed the "Lion King" by local fans and media, has been stuck on 99 caps since a 1-0 defeat by Iran in a World Cup qualifier in June last year.<br /> <br /> He had been overlooked by previous coach Hong Myong-Bo, who stepped down after South Korea's disappointing first-round exit in Brazil.<br /> <br /> Lee, who had brief spells in Europe with Werder Bremen and Middlesbrough, is also the K-League's all-time leader with 165 goals in 369 matches.<br /> <br /> South Korea face Venezuela on September 5 and Uruguay on September 8.<br /> <br /> Lee was also snubbed by Dutchman Guus Hiddink for the 2002 World Cup which South Korea co-hosted with Japan. Team News<br /> <br /> Italy<br /> <br />     Antonio Conte has already confirmed he will be making a number of changes after already securing top spot in Group E inside two matches.<br />     Eder, Daniele De Rossi, Giorgio Chiellini, Leonardo Bonucci, Gianluigi Buffon and Tiago Motta are all a booking away from a suspension, though Bonucci and Motta are in line to start.<br />     Federico Bernardeschi and Stephan El Shaarawy are battling for a place on the right.<br />     Antonio Candreva picked up a hamstring injury against Sweden and will not be risked here.<br /> <br /> Ireland<br /> <br />     Jonathan Walters missed the 3-0 defeat against Belgium with a heel problem and he remains a huge doubt for Ireland's must win match against Italy on Wednesday.<br />     Martin O'Neil will reportedly axe three of the back four that started against Belgium with Seamus Coleman set to be the only survivor. Shane Duffy and Richard Keogh could replace Ciaran Clark and John O'Shea at the heart of the defence, while Robbie Brady will return to left-back.<br />     Shane Long could also be dropped in favour of Daryl Murphy and then be brought off the bench as an impact sub later on in the game. Euro 2016 Sweden v Belgium preview

 Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic stepped up to the mark to fire Sweden into this tournament with his goals in the qualifying play-off against Denmark. And now he must do so again if he's to ensure that his international career doesn't finish on a low.<br /><br />The task is simple: Sweden must beat Belgium to have any chance of making the last 16, since a draw and a two-point tally would be too few to qualify as a third-placed side, in the event that Ireland fail to beat Italy.<br /><br />Not that Sweden have looked like winning. Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois may wonder whether he even needs to turn up to face Sweden on Wednesday given his opponents' dismal attacking record at Euro 2016.<br /><br />The Swedes have failed to muster a single shot on target in their first two games, a statistic made all the more embarrassing by the presence of Ibrahimovic in their attack. 1. The Hawks dominated the Kangaroos across the field the last time they met with 409-359 disposals, 125-93 marks, 35-20 scoring shots, 60-40 inside 50s and 12 goals to six after half-time. Sam Mitchell was best on ground with 33 disposals.<br /> <br /> 2. Hawthorn has had the better of North Melbourne recently, winning seven of the last nine matches including three by more than 50 points.<br /> <br /> 3. The teams have met at Etihad Stadium 10 times, with six wins to four in the Hawks' favour - including five of the last six.<br /> <br /> 4.
