Chelsea are on a roll in pre-season but they face their most significant challenge of the summer this evening as they take on a Real Madrid side likely to include several star names.
Antonio Conte has won all of his first three friendly matches as Chelsea’s manager and saw his side show the fighting spirit so often associated with him in a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Liverpool in Pasadena on Thursday.
The win came at a cost for Cesc Fabregas, whose red card for a foul on Ragnar Klavan means he will miss tonight’s match and the chance to make an impression on Conte. He will have to hope that the likes of Nemanja Matic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek don’t shine in his absence.
