The two sides played together in 2.Bundesliga last season, but Paderborn were relegated to play the third division of German football this season. However, the destiny decided to connect these two teams once again in the opening round of DFB Pokal which is to be played on Monday evening at Benteler-Arena in Paderborn, The hosts will be looking to forget the last season’s devastating home defeat to Sandhausen, as it ended 0 – 6 which was one of the worst defeats Paderborn have suffered on home ground in their history.

The season in 3.Liga started almost a month ago as already four rounds have been played. Paderborn continued with the poor performances from the last season as they suffered three defeats so far. Whereas the away losses to Duisburg and Magdeburg maybe could have been justified, the home defeat in the last round to Werder Bremen II surely can’t and it already puts Paderborn in a very difficult situation ahead of the rest of the season.

Sandhausen somehow managed to save the 2.Bundesliga status last season. The team lost their top scorer from last season Aziz Bouhaddouz to St.Pauli, but signed Cottbus’ Richard Sukuta-Pasu who should be a decent replacement. However, Sandhausen have not started the campaign in 2.Bundesliga in a promising way, playing a home 2 – 2 draw with Fortuna Dusseldorf and losing easily 2 – 0 away at Erzbirge Aue in the second round.
