Paris Saint Germain completed a clean sweep of domestic trophies last season as Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s 50 goal haul across all competitions helped them to their 4th successive Ligue 1 title, as well as a Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue trophy.

This set up a second successive France Super Cup meeting between them and Lyon, with Paris Saint Germain aiming to win their 4th consecutive Super Cup and Lyon looking for their first win since 2012. Last season’s encounter ended 2-0 to PSG, with Serge Aurier and Edinson Cavani finding the net.

Paris Saint Germain have been preparing for the new campaign with their International Champions Cup campaign, where they have beaten both Inter Milan and Real Madrid. However, their full backs have been the main scoring threat for them in those fixtures, scoring five of their six goals. They still haven’t found a suitable replacement for Ibrahimovic and, at the moment, they look to be relying on Edinson Cavani and Hatem Ben Arfa to fill his sizeable boots.

Lyon have managed to hang on to their own star striker so far, with Alexandre Lacazette attracting interest from Arsenal but the Gunners unwilling to stump up the desired transfer fee for the 25 year old. They have lost centre back Samuel Umtiti to Barcelona but numerous replacements at the back have been brought in.

Their pre-season preparations have gone fairly well too, with their draw against Bourg en Bresse being followed by victories against Zenit and Sporting CP. They also have the added advantage of a large number of their players being fairly well rested as they were not involved in Euro 2016 or Copa America in the summer.
